It has been a very tough few months for the Menounos Family.

Not only is Maria‘s mother battling stage 4 brain cancer, the TV star has her own health concerns to deal with.

In the new issue of People, Maria told the magazine, “I’d been getting lightheaded on set and having headaches.  My speech had gotten slurred and I was having difficulty reading the teleprompter.”

An MRI revealed Maria had a golf-ball-size brain tumor that was pushing on her facial nerves.

She told People, “I didn’t cry. I actually laughed, It’s so surreal and crazy and unbelievable that my mom has a brain tumor—and now I have one too?”

Because she is still recovering from surgery she has decided to step down as co-anchor of E! News.

A post on E! Online mentions that Maria is planning on taking some time off to work on some “passion projects” and try to “help women realize that they have to put themselves first.”

Menounos took to Instagram yesterday to thank everyone who has been supporting her.

“I’m recovering well and should be as good as new very very soon! Luckily I don’t need any further treatments but I can’t say the same about my mom. So please keep her in your prayers.”

You can read all about Maria’s story in the July 17th issue of People here.
