TMZ is reporting Erin Moran, who played Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days, has died.  She was only 56.

Authorities in Indiana were called to try to revive an “unresponsive female” this afternoon.  When EMT’s arrived they found that she was already dead.

Erin shot to stardom in the 1970’s when she was cast as the younger sister of Ron Howard’s character on Happy Days.  She continued to star in that role alongside Scott Baio in 1982’s spinoff Joanie Loves Chachi.

Erin had a rough life after her acting days were over.  A combination of alcohol or drug abuse and other bizarre behavior kept her in the news from time to time.  It was reported in 2012 that she had run out of money and was homeless.

She had also had occasional roles on shows like Murder, She Wrote, Desperation Boulevard, and Celebrity Fit Club.

Her cause of death has not been released yet.
