Some sad news out of Carlo’s Bakery in New Jersey.

Mary Valastro, mother of Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro, has died.  She was only 69.

On his Facebook page yesterday, Buddy posted, “It’s with an extremely heavy heart that I must share the news of my mother’s passing.”

The post continued, “She left for heaven this morning, surrounded by the family. This is a difficult time for all of us and I do ask for your patience and respect while we let this sink in.”

People Magazine reports that his mom took a turn for the worse and Buddy rushed back to New Jersey to be by her side.”  She had an 8 year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and her condition had been declining over the past few months.

After Mary was diagnosed with the disease, which affects nerves in the brain and spinal cord, Buddy launched the Momma Mary Foundation to raise money and awareness for those who have been affected by ALS.

Mary is survived by her son Buddy, 4 daughters and 14 grandchildren.  Please keep the Valastro family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
