Bruno Mars Scores Big At AMA’s

Bruno Mars was a big winner at this week’s 2017 American Music Awards. He took home 7 trophies including the top honor of Artist of the Year.
Other winners included former One Direction star Niall Horan, who took home New Artist of the Year, Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito,” which won two awards for Collaboration of the Year and Favorite Song, Pop/Rock, and Lady Gaga Female Artist of the Year, Pop/Rock.
The show opened with Jamie Foxx and his daughter surrounded by first responders. He said, “This year, we needed the power of music to escape the news of the day. We needed the power of music to help us heal. From hurricanes, wildfires, hate, hatred-fueled violence, 2017 was a year that tested our faith. In these moments of crisis, heroes emerged.”
Pink and Kelly Clarkson sang an emotional performance of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts,” as pictures of first responders helping folks affected by this year’s tragedies played in the background. transgender state legislator, as her date, performed “Sorry Not Sorry.” She started her performance from the audience, as mean tweets from trolls were projected on the screen, and then took to the stage surrounded by dancers as well as a huge chorus of backup singers.
