Beach Boys Honored With New Street In Rhode Island
“Wouldn’t It Be Nice” if you could take your “Little Deuce Coupe” or your “409” down to Beach Boys Way for some “Good Vibrations”? Well now you can in the city of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
The street located behind the old Narragansett Park Race Track (off of Newport Avenue) was the home to the largest concert ever held in the tiny state of Rhode Island.
It was September 2, 1977 when over 40,000 fans packed the venue to see one of the greatest American bands of all time.
Not only was it a record for most people in attendance at a concert in Rhode Island, it was also the largest amount of money earned for the members of The Beach Boys in their career (at that time).
Almost 40 years to the day, members of the band were back in The Ocean State. Just before they took the stage at Bold Point Park in East Providence tonight, there was a ceremony to honor the record-breaking show.
A plaque and a new street have been hung to rename the portion of Narragansett Park Drive where the track once stood in the area of the former Building 19 store.
Mike Love and the mayors of East Providence and Pawtucket, Rhode Island were on hand for the official unveiling before the show.
Thank you RI Waterfront Events for putting on a show that was a lot of “Fun, Fun, Fun!”
