Shakira Builiding New School In Columbia

Shakira is going back to school! No, not as a student or teacher, she is opening another school in her hometown of Barranquilla, Columbia.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer launched the Barefoot Foundation in 1997 and has opened six schools so far. The 7th, Institucion Nuevo Bosque will open in 2019.
In a statement, Shakira said: “When we started to build schools in Colombia 20 years ago, we chose remote areas where there was absolutely nothing at all – no infrastructure, roads or even potable water. We built schools where the government was absent and thousands of children didn’t have access to quality education. The transformation was immediate – jobs were generated, malnutrition plummeted and the students responded well academically.”
Another one of Shakira’s schools was named the number one public school in Columbia based on students’ test scores.
It is always nice when a big star is still able to help the less fortunate. A big “thumbs up” for Shakira!
