Lady Gaga touched the hearts of her audience at Coachella over the weekend with a dedication to one of her friends who couldn’t make it to the concert.

Her latest album Joanne features a track called “Grigio Girls” which is about her longtime friend Sonja Durham, who is battling stage 4 cancer.

During Gaga’s performance yesterday she played a special acoustic version of “Edge of Glory” for Sonia.

“My friend Sonja is very sick and I love her so much and if it’s okay with you, I’d like to sing this song for her,” Gaga said.

E! Online reports Sonja used to work as an assistant to Gaga.  The two have known each other for almost 10 years.

On Sonja’s blog, she calls Gaga her guardian angel, posting:  “Honestly, if it wasn’t for Gaga and the financial contributions from everyone so far I really do not think I would be here.”

We hope you are feeling better Sonja!  We’re thinking of you.

Still gotta make jokes when you're going on 7 days in the hospital!
