Cyndi Lauper has begun working on adapting the 1988 movie Working Girl as a Broadway musical.

You might remember Cyndi already has had stage success with the popular Kinky Boots musical.

She plans to write the music and lyrics for the show, while Kim Rosenstock will create the rest of the show.

In a statement, producers Robyn Goodman and Bob Cohen said, “Working Girl was a groundbreaking depiction of a working-class woman determined to succeed in the cutthroat, male-dominated corporate world of the 1980s.  Funny and smart, this now-iconic tale is just as relevant today – and who better to adapt it for Broadway than Cyndi Lauper.”

On Instagram, Cyndi posted: “The word is out on my next project! I’m excited to get my #Broadway creative juices flowing again. #WorkingGirl is coming to the #stage and it’s an honor to be creating the music for this project. There really is nothing quite like the feeling of the #theatre!

No date has been set for the release of Working Girl on stage.
